The short answer

What the SAT actually tests

Algebra is about 35 percent of the section and covers linear equations, functions, systems, and inequalities. This is the backbone of the test, and it rewards clean, careful setup far more than clever tricks.
Advanced Math is another 35 percent and covers quadratics, exponentials, polynomials, radicals, and other nonlinear functions. This is the hardest material on the exam and the closest the SAT comes to a ceiling, which matters for the next section.
Problem Solving and Data Analysis is about 15 percent and covers ratios, percentages, probability, and statistics. These questions lean on reading and interpretation as much as computation, so slowing down to understand the setup pays off.
Geometry and Trigonometry is the last 15 percent and covers area, volume, triangles, circles, and right triangle trigonometry. It is the smallest domain, but one forgotten formula can cost an easy question, so it is worth steady review.
What is NOT on the SAT
To be clear about the top line: calculus is not on the SAT. No derivatives, no integrals, no limits, and no differential equations. Advanced Math is the ceiling, and it stops at nonlinear functions like quadratics, exponentials, and polynomials. The hardest questions you will meet are advanced algebra and function problems, not anything from a calculus course.
A few other topics students expect are also absent. There are no formal proofs, matrices beyond the basics are not required, and work with imaginary or complex numbers is minimal at most. As a rule of thumb, if a topic lives in a typical calculus class or an upper level course, you can safely assume the SAT leaves it out. That is not a loophole, it is the design of the test. So what should you study instead
